Another great post, I think the information about animation clips having a "start, middle and end" is overlooked by a lot of people when it comes to reels.

Good video review Cameron :) I think the animator on this piece could have done something really nice like the dog running out the gate, then doing that classic crazy skidding run thing dogs do where they literally have no traction or possibly trip over some stuff by the roadside or knock a bin over maybe heh! I think the dog running from the ball after getting his teeth on it finally seems a bit of a slow reaction. It might have been nice to have some comeback to him biting it - such as maybe the ball coming alive & barking at him or something silly. Just an idea :)

Thanks for doing this!! I learned a lot watching the entire review, and I just so happen to be animating a four legged creature piece too so this came in really handy and educative. :)

Huge props man for going out of your way to help aspiring animators make their way. This is the type of attitude which makes the animation environment so welcoming. Great blog and great post! keep'em coming!

very cool you're doing reviews now! been a fan of your blog :)
I totally agree that it's worth spending time on the feet, which often seems overlooked. some rigs make it harder to get nice rolls and shape changes, but it's worth the try. I like that the animator has a gait change in the shot, which makes it more natural and interesting (and I think it's a good thing to show on the reel).
thanks for doing this!

Gold stuff man. Learned a lot as well, been meaning to get into creature animation and this tips are great.

Your notes were spot on. I really hope to see this same shot again after the notes you gave.

Thanks again for doing these. It's nice to be able to listen to/watch in depth critiques and be able to learn from what others have done.
