Ha ha ha but seriously man, this is just awesome stuff, really great. I had no idea you worked on transformers. Nothing better than giant robot battles. I wish I could not sound like a horrible fan boy but I just love your work.

Great stuff as always. For which pieces did you use video reference? And which piece did you find the most challenging?

Amazing, Cameron!!
Really inspiring also, having read through your blog and seen how you got to where you are today! :)
Since your last reel, what has been the project you enjoyed working on the most?
Also, are you working on something at the minute?
All the best for your future endeavors :)

Wow you have an amazing reel. I've recently found your blog this past year and your stuff is always inspiring. Congratulations

Hey you got some nice stuff there! Just a quick question, roughly how long did that last part take with the dinosaur creatures? Some very fluid and lovely animating.

Really cool to see your Transformers stuff! Great work as always :)

Have you found your workflow changing lately at all? Just curious since I'm guessing you're on quite a cartoony show right now and wondering if you've found the need to approach shots in a different way?

holy molly. you truly are brilliant. Those are some of the hardest shots in the movie. great work man.

Oh wow! Did I get the first comment?! Woot! Cameron, once again, wow... very inspiring work!! Amazing stuff. If you're open to answering a couple of questions, here you go: First, if you can, could you tell me how long each of those shots took to animate? You can talk about one, or two, or all if you like. Second, how many of those, if any, did you use video reference for and if you did use video reference, how close did you stick to it? Three, which of the clips were "easy"? which were "hard"? and why? Four, when animating, are you a "straight ahead" kind of animator, or pose to pose, or mixed? And are you thinking silhouettes and/or arcs and or body mechanics when you're posing? All of the above? And last, your game work (Turok) seems more "realistic" than say, the Megamind and HTTYD work. Is that dictated by the director/filmmaker? Which is easier? Sorry for the barage of questions... Thanks for any or all anwers... can't wait to see what else you're working on!!

I really like your works. I'd really like to see more animation tutorials from you such as how you execute your shot step by step from scratch. Good job !

Fantastic work Cam, well done!

Which shot are you proud of the most?

Which shot took the longest to make and approve?

Which shots on both 'Dragon' and 'Megamind' taught you the most?

Awesome reel !! love the attitude in every characters movement,Inspiring as always.

WOW!! The most amazing reel I have seen this year.

From Turok to the recent Transformers shots, for me the most admirable thing is your command on weight and flow of curves or arcs (like Transformers shot with the chain around 00.47 sec of ur reel)

I am not an animator with a traditional 2D background, so getting more variations in the flow of curves doesn't come natural.

It would be a really great read if you can post something on how you plan these amazing curves in the Character Body(like the dinosours) - tail animations - secondaries like chains, ropes.

Lastly, YOU ROCK!

Hi, really inspiring to see your work here. especially how you animated the robots completely differently in monsters vs. aliens and in transformers...
which pieces of advice would you give to a student just starting in animation? I want to become an character animator, too!

Rad work Buddy!!!

Alonso said...

so has your workflow changed greatly since your Turok days?

you had mentioned that you needed to learn a more flexible workflow for director's to buy off on, and now you're working fully animated characters, have you gotten much more pose oriented w/ step keys, or still heavily layered?

Hey Cameron! Looks so good! I'm always more impressed with feature animation when its in a show reel than when I see it in the actual film. Guess you don't realize someone actually created that until they sign there name specifically to it. Anyways, I was just wondering how you challenge yourself and push to get better when you're stuff is already so top notch and beautiful?

Todd said...

I have been inspired! thank you Cameron. Fantastic, fantastic work!!

Thanks for sharing this and letting us ask for questions.
I second Alonso's questions, it would be very helpful to see a post of how your workflow changed.

In awe from every shot, Cam! Really great work. Can you tell me where you got the sound fx that you used in the dinosaur/soldier animation at the end? What kind of planning did you go through to get the scene the way you wanted it.. was it from reference etc.?

Tania 'Doodlezilla' Vincent said...

everything has such great character. I have no idea how you get such realistic movement at the same time as getting character across.

I was wondering if there is any difference in your work flow or approach when you animate more realistic and action packed movement?

Can't wait to see more, thank you so much for sharing it with us all

I understand that you are self taught in animation. Is there an animation book that helped you the most? or is it more of a collection of knowledge that helps you most? I have read most of the animation books- illusion of life, simplified planning for animation, force, vilppus drawing manual, timing for animation- the list goes on... is there an animation book you highly recommend?

Daniel Gonzales said...

Which one that you remember, was the most challenging to do out of your shots?

Nate said...

Awesome stuff man!!! don't get me wrong, you have many action shots in your demoreel than acting ones. Its because you are pretty good at physical stuff than acting?

Katie Orcutt said...

Awesome, flip!! Your fight choreography skills are incredible... you make it look easy! I also especially love the line from Megamind, "your hair... looks exciting!"... the acting is perfect. Great job, as always!
